Doors swinging out over steps are a very easy way for the home owner, small child or adult to just fall down a step or two causing personal injury. Adults carrying things like boxes, laundry or children can easily fall down a step or two like this because they just do not see the step. A small stumble or two is not a huge problem however when one stumbles with and falls onto a small child or vehicle they can be injured. Home owner’s insurance does not pay out at all when an occupant of the home becomes hurt or injured. Use caution when entering or leaving a home through all doors. Install a stair platform at least 3′ x 3′ and also make sure the required and necessary stair handrails and guardrails are installed.;
Steps like these must also have even riser heights. Once can see the step is installed right on top of the garage floor slab. Often these garage slabs sink over time. As the floor slab sinks the stair riser heights will change. Stairs with uneven riser heights can be a real tripping hazard as with our eyes closed the difference in stair height will be very noticeable as one falls up or down the steps. In all cases corrective actions are necessary in order to avoid tripping hazards like these.
