Water Heater Types

Water Heater Types
Most of us know the standard water heater type. Water heaters where gas or electric powered heats the hot water tank inside the water heater.

Usually the process is quite simple either gas is burned or an electric element heats up the water surrounding it in order to satisfy a theromstat of some type. All water heaters have thermostats that turn the water heater off when the hot water in the water gets to a specified temperature in order to avoid being burned by water that gets too hot.

No matter what water heater type you have the water heater should never heat the hot water hotter than 120 F or so degress. Getting water hotter than that out of a faucet can easily cause someone to be burned. Keep in mind those who like hot water for cleaning seldom think about children or older people who might not realize how hot the water is and be burned.

Water heaters can be direct vent where they have an induced draft fan to suck the exaust gases out of them and expel the toxic exaust gases to the exterior or they can be the more common type where hot exasust gases rise up a chimeny.

While there are many water heater types they all do the same think in the end and that is heat water. Heating water uses energy. Therefore the lower you set the thermostat and the less hot water you use the more energy you will save.
