water heater short

.

water heater short
This can refer to either of two things.

A short water heater can be used in a confined space like in a closet, under the kitchen cabinet or the like. Short water heaters are usually electric and can fit into some small placed. The only concern I have about short water heaters is they may be harder to find on some holiday or weekend in the future when the water heater decides to fail. Short water heaters are just as effective as tall water heaters. When using a short gas water heater one must keep in mind that gas appliances must enter the chimeny in BTU order with the larger BTU appliances entering the chimeny on the bottom and the smaller BTU appliances entering above. Failure to do so can create hazardous condtions.

Water heater shorts can also occur when the heating elements fail. Failed electric hot water heating elements are a frequant problem. Cuttiong power to the water heater, turning off the water valves to the water heater, attaching a drain hose to the bottom of the water heater and opening a faucet or two in the home is not very difficult. Removing a water heater element is not at all difficult nor is installing a replacement water heater element. Make sure you shut the power to the water heater or changing that heating element can easily be the last thing you ever do. It takes about .005 of an amp to kill you. Most water heaters have 40 amp fuses. You do the math. Take no chances and cut the power to the water heater before you even go near it.
