water heater repairs

Water heater repairs
Are things like changing the anode, replacing thermo couples, replacing gas valves, replacing pressure relife valves and the like.

Chaging the anode can prolong the life of a water heater as the anode will corrode rather than the water heater tank. Personally I tried to change an anode once and broke the drain valve on the water heater. Thus doing preventive maintenance I made a mess and burned my hand on the hot water that spilled out all over my floor. I guess you can figure that will be the last time I come up with that bright idea.

Thermo couples do break or go bad. Without them the pilot will not stay lit as it is the thermo couple that sends the signal to the gas valve the pilot is on so it is safe to let out gas to light the burners. Replacement of them is easy and it can be done by just about anyone.

Gas valve replacement is best done by professionals as you are messing with gas pipe. Do it wrong and you can cause a gas leak that might go undetected. Blowing your own house up is not at all a good idea. The chance of blowing your house up makes the $100 extra for a plumber seem like a great deal.

Pressure relife valves are easy to change. If you change it make sure you install the correct one and pipe the dischrage down to the floor rather than chance buring someone. Prior to changing the valve find out why it is leaking. If the valve is leakind due to excessive water pressure into the home replacing the valve will not be a water heater repair it will be a waste of money as the new valve should be expected to start leaking soon.
