water heater outside

.

Water heater outside
Not a good idea where pipes freeze is it? Not atll all in NJ where I live. Four months a year that water heater would be frozen into a block of ice and the pipes running to the water heater would be split right open.

If I lived in a warm area where it never froze having the water heater outside would be a good thing. If you are using air conditioning all year long you are paying to cool the air the energy loss from the water heater just heated up. In other words you are paying to heat air with the water heater and then paying to cool the air with the air conditioning system and then to warm the cool air that cooled your water heater and so on.

Water heaters outside would be great in the above case as the hot outdoors can preheat the water so the water heater will not have to work as hard. Also when the water heater breaks and all water heaters do the water heater outside the home would just spill water onto the ground rather than flood the basement.

In warm areas having the water heater outside seems like a great idea.
