water heater info

Water heater info is seldom looked for while your water heater is still working. We have become so used to haveing all the hot water we want just about the only time we think about our water heater is when we have no hot water because our water heater stopped working.

While most gas water heaters last around ten years and most electric water heaters last about five years those with boiler mates or hot water storage tanks next to their boilers with a "zone" of heat running through them in a loop to provide indirect heat sometimes keep the same water heater for 20 years.

What contrbuites to the early death of water heaters is water that is acidic and also water with mineral. The minerals attach to the tank walls and the electric water heater elements and short them out. It takes time however when the water heater elements start going I take it as a hint the rest of the water heater is not far behind and would generaly change the water heater before it breaks and makes a mess.

A water heater that makes a popping sound like an old coffee pot is giving you a hint. It is time to buy a new one before the one you have breaks and makes a mess. Leaking water from a water heater is not what you want to come home to one night or wake up to first thing one morning. The only time the leak is worse is the day you get home from vacation and find out the water heater broke the day you left.

While water heaters are usually trouble free when they cause trouble it is very noticable as anyone who has taken a cold shower can attest to. Having hot water has become one of our birth rights and it is not something we are willing to give up on.
