TUB / SHOWER TILE / GROUT CRACKED CHIPPED MISSING LOOSE

TUB SHOWER TILE, GROUT CRACKED, TILE CHIPPED, TILE MISSING, LOOSE TILE: This item is checked if there is danger of sharp edges from broken tile or if there is the possibility of water seeping passed missing grout, tile, or cracks. This item is not necessarily checked if the crack/cracks are cosmetic in nature. The repair of tile and grout is easy, even for the inexperienced. The problem is matching the tile or grout color. Sometimes the original tile setter will have left some tile behind. We often see these extra pieces stored in attics, basements, top shelves of cabinets or closets and other out of the way places. If only a few tiles are affected they can usually be adhered with adhesive caulks, otherwise you may need to purchase tile setting adhesives from a Ceramic Tile Dealer. After allowing the reinstalled tile to set for a couple of hours, apply the grout. This is very easy--just mix some in a small bowl about the thickness of extra-thick gravy, and wipe it across the joints. After a few minutes wipe off the excess with a dry cloth. After the grout starts to set up wipe again to remove all excess residue. Premature wiping will remove too much grout from the joint. Cracked tile with sharp edges may be sanded down slightly to remove the edge followed with an application of clear silicone caulk neatly spread over the crack. One very common circumstance noted in pan tiles is where the crack is old enough to have allowed water penetration into the concrete float below the tile. The result is efflorescence noted in the crack. This shows up as a white powdery substance atop the crack which most often has hardened. This residue can be cleaned off with muriatic acid or a product similar to that. Both products are available at Tile Supply Dealers. Should you need further assistance contact a Ceramic Tile Contractor.
