Transite pipe, hints from a home inspector home inspections
Transite pipe: in older construction this pipe was used mostly for plumbing vent stacks and for fossil fuel burning appliance flues. Some of these pipes are known to contain asbestos fibers so be cautious with regard to removal or damaging this type pipe. It is identified by its whitish color and its thick walls (up to
12 inch thick). The inspector cannot ascertain whether this pipe, in fact, contains asbestos. Laboratory testing is required to ascertain the presence of asbestos.
