Tankless water heater, hints from a home inspector
Tankless water heater: it is possible to reduce the water heater tank size, in fact eliminate it, if the recovery rate of the system is fast enough. The "on demand" tankless water heaters have large heating elements which only heat water when it is needed. This saves energy obviously. Tankless water heaters are not too common in residential construction due to their high initial cost and because they do not always heat rapidly enough to maintain a constant supply of hot water. Expect to see more tankless systems in future years. Be aware that the inspector does not check the efficiency of water heating units. Contact the inspector for additional information regarding this limitation if you desire.
