SUB FLOOR SHEATHING

ONE INCH NOMINAL THICKNESS SUB FLOOR SHEATHING
One inch thick sub-floor sheathing is probably the most common building technique found in older houses. The boards were laid diagonally across the floor joists for added strength. Usually the boards will be covered over with hardwood or tongue and groove soft wood such as pine. Sometimes plywood will cover the sheathing to be used as an underlayment for carpet or vinyl flooring. The inspector will not routinely report "squeaks" and "pops" in wood floors.
