Spade type water shut-off valve, hints from a home inspector
Spade type water shut-off valve: this item is entered to help remind you that it requires a special device to turn the water main off at the street. These tools are readily available at most building supply outlets. See 45a and remember to keep the proper "handle" to shut the water off to the property. It is recommended that you occasionally turn this valve to the off position then back on to keep it loosened up. Be aware that the inspector does not operate the water valve. In many cases the spade will break off in the inspector's wrench or a leak will develop around the valve. Both problems would become the inspector's responsibility.
