Solar water heating system inoperative damaged : (if readily apparent) solar systems are generally not tested during the inspection process. Although there are many reasons for this inspection limitation one common reason is seasonal drain-down. Without water in the system the operational characteristics of solar water heating systems are not tested by the inspection company, some obvious defects such as the one depicted in the photo above, are reported. There would be no way to test the system. There are however, a few problems which occur to these systems that are visible. Visible problems are often reported by the inspector as a courtesy. Refer to the notations in the report for information regarding the situation. Although many problems are easily corrected by the home owner, it may be necessary to contact a solar heating contractor for repairs. The inspector will try to inform you whether the repair will require professional assistance.
