Since radon can not be seen or smelled and it is a KNOWN carcinogen the only way to determine how much radon is being emitted by a granite countertop is to have the countertop tested by a licensed radon measurement technician. According to the EPA radon is the leading cause of lung cancer for not smokers and the second leading cause of lung cancer for non smokers.
