Private sewage disposal system, hints from a home inspector
Private sewage disposal system: private sewage disposal systems are not inspected by the inspector. The inspector enters this item with no guarantee of accuracy. Please verify the sewage disposal method with the owner of the property. Be aware that even the owner may not be certain of the sewage disposal method. Many properties have been billed for sewer connections by the city or county for years and ultimately find that there is no such connection. These systems require occasional pumping out to remove solids and sludge. Some cleaning and household chemicals should not be put into a septic system. Contact a septic tank pumping service for further information regarding these chemicals and for the probable frequency of pumping. Note: septic tank systems are generally pumped and certified by septic tank pumping companies before the buyer takes possession of the property. Be aware that the inspection company does not inspect septic tank systems due to health risks and licensing requirements.
