To prevent such problems, plumbing systems often have anti-hammer devices installed. Usually these are called "water hammer arrestors" and are installed in various places, such as near washing machines, kitchen or bathroom sinks or near ice-maker lines. These devices can be purchased ready-made. Replacement of the washer would be one way to possibly fix squealing or whistling sounds when water is running through a particular faucet. Sometimes, however, it may be necessary to replace the "stem," or possibly the entire faucet if the stem is not repairable or available. If the female stem threads within the faucet are worn excessively it will be necessary to replace the faucet. If you need further assistance you should contact a plumbing contractor.
