PVC plastic gas lines: plastic gas line is very common, hints from a home inspector

PVC plastic gas lines: plastic gas line is very common, especially as the main gas supply to the property. It is not to be used above ground since it is somewhat fragile and can be damaged by sunlight. Usually there is a wire running alongside plastic gas pipe which allows metal detection equipment to locate the nonmetallic pipe in the event digging is to occur nearby or if leakage is suspected. Note: gas leaks are not detectable by the inspector if the lines are buried in the ground or are otherwise hidden from view or if the odor of gas is not apparent. "Soap bubble" tests are not performed by the inspector. Should you desire a gas leak test it is recommended that you contact the gas supplier to the property. This is usually a free service.
