Home Inspection Business Plan & How To Become a Home Inspector

Before you do anything else including think about "How To Become a Home Inspector" there are two files that are likely to be the two best files you download this year. These two files are FREE. One file is in a PDF format and the other is in Excel. NONE OF THE NUMBERS IN THE TIME OR EXPENSE CHART ARE "MINE" THEY ARE JUST STARTING POINTS FOR YOU TO APPLY YOUR NUMBERS OR ANTICIPATED NUMBERS TO SEE THE IMPACT CHANGES WILL HAVE UPON THE PROFIT YOU WILL OR WILL NOT EARN.

Becoming a Home Inspector is the easy part. The first page of these documents show you how a typical home inspector spends their week. The second page shows you what type expenses a typical home inspection company faces. The last two pages show you how you can decide how much you want to earn as a home inspector and how hard you will have to work in order to achieve your goal. ONCE AGAIN -- NONE OF THE NUMBERS IN THE TIME OR EXPENSE CHART ARE "MINE" THEY ARE JUST STARTING POINTS FOR YOU TO APPLY YOUR NUMBERS OR ANTICIPATED NUMBERS TO SEE THE IMPACT CHANGES WILL HAVE UPON THE PROFIT YOU WILL OR WILL NOT EARN.

For the HTML version (no download but not customizable click Time, expences and the impact of pricing on profit.

For a better but still NOT customizable PDF version click Time, expences and the impact of pricing on profit in PDF

For the Totally customizable Excel version click Time, expenses and the impact of pricing on profit in Excel. The advantage of the Excel format is you can plug in all of your own numbers if you wish to and see in real time how different factors change your ability to become one of the few home inspector who earns a profit.

My home inspection business had me earning $10 an hour with no life. I was still begging for business while rapidly realizing being honest was costing me referral sources faster than I could gain new ones. Thinking raising prices would cost me more of those inspections I just could not afford to loose, I was just stuck.

Did I look at my home inspection business plan? Hell no! I thought I could just work harder. Did working harder help? Sure I got my income up to $13.00 an hour, not quite double minimum wage.

Then one night I remembered how I had spent weeks creating a home inspection business plan when I started out. Where was it?
So I dug it out and started looking at how rosy of a picture I drew. Did I take into account my advertising costs would rise every year rather than fall? NO!

Did my home inspection business plan take into account each and every category of cost would go up every year. NO!

What could I do?

I spent more on ads and work harder, much harder. I kept at it till I finally got the quantity of home inspections I did up all alone was past 600 a year and I still was not making a living because I was keeping my prices low so I would not loose any of those precious home inspections I was working so hard to obtain.

Something had to give. Finally I figured out what the problem was. I was not charging enough money. If I raised prices $50 per inspection and did 600 inspections I would make an additional $30,000. If I did not raise prices I could not do any more inspections anyway.

Keep in mind when I started my home inspection business there were less home inspectors and no home inspector licenses. Home Inspection Business in New Jersey provides the math for you to clearly see what your prospects are. In New Jersey a new inspector would be lucky to get 60 inspections his first year considering how much competition there is.

By now you have read all three pages of information and probably not realized you have not read one single word about actually learning to inspect a house.
