Log set lighter valve burner damaged : Many modern "fireplaces" have artificial log sets installed which, when heated, radiate heat to the room. Often these "logs" will become damaged and may have pieces missing. The inspector will enter this item if it is noted that the log set has been damaged or has missing parts. This finding may be cosmetic or it may be latently hazardous, depending on the particular situation, and therefore should be corrected. Replacement parts may be available at fireplace shops or home improvement stores. Repairs are generally easy if you have the right tools. The inspector will also enter this item if it is noted that the log lighter has excessively corroded or has been subjected to such high heat that little remains. Replacement log lighters are available at most building supply stores or fireplace shops. Repairs to the gas valve are difficult and usually require the services of a plumbing contractor. The inspector will enter e if something unusual is present, such as a valve located inside the fire box, or if the valve cannot be readily found. If not located ask the seller for its location. Check its operation at the final walk-through. The inspector may indicate caulk gas line if the gas line penetration is not caulked properly there is the possibility of hot embers or excessive heat passing through the gap and into the surrounding wood framework. The situation can be corrected very easily with fireplace or furnace caulk available at most fireplace shops. Clean the gap around the pipe and press the caulk in tightly for an effective repair.
