gas fireplace
Gas fireplaces add charm to the
residence and some are so efficient that they are rated as wall heaters.
While giving the appearance of an actual fire the problem of firewood,
smoke and hot embers is eliminated. Most gas logs are turned on at a
control switch located near the fireplace. Older units may have
full-time pilot lights while newer units should have automatic igniters.
The inspector is not allowed to light the fire except at the switch. If
the pilot is shut down and the unit does not readily come on, the
inspector may enter "access impaired" on the checklist page.
It is recommended that the unit be demonstrated to you at the final walk
through under these circumstances.
