Fire stops not installed in vent chimney chase
Fire stops not installed in vent chimney chase: Fire stops are generally required in openings between floors
and into attics. Proper fire stops are usually made of metal and are
placed around the vent pipe (or metal chimney stack) at each floor and
ceiling level. The purpose is to help prevent fires from spreading
between floors and into the attic. Retrofit fire stops may be made of 26
gauge sheet metal or 5/ " type xe drywall or 3/4" wood without
open joints. The installation of fire stopping is recommended. Contact a
handyman service or sheet metal contractor for assistance.
