Faucet valve leaks around handle spout connector pipes, hints from a home inspector
Faucet valve leaks around handle spout connector pipes Plumbing this
condition is a waste of water. Leaking exterior faucets could excessively wet the foundation. Shower, bath, lav, and kitchen sink faucets with leaking stems or spout swivels can allow water into the wall cavity or under cabinets. Most faucets or valves can be repaired. There are different types of faucets requiring different techniques for repair. If the faucet is a washer type replace the packing around the faucet stem and the washer at the bottom of the stem. If the seat is replaceable, you should replace that as well.
Washer less faucets (the ball or cartridge types) require special parts to repair them but generally all parts are available at building supply outlets. Connector pipe leaks are common also. Flex supply pipes leak at the compression rings often. The supply tube may also split if bent excessively or if it is very old. Before performing any repairs, talk to someone at a home improvement center or a plumbing supply dealer who is familiar with faucet repairs. Property owners probably should learn to repair leaky faucets since leaks are so common. Contact a plumbing contractor or a home repair service for further assistance if you feel you cannot accomplish the repair effectively.
