NEW
JERSEY HOME INSPECTOR we are not electrical contractors
GFCI and AFCI
Ground fault current interrupters or GFCI's
should exist at all outdoor, kitchen and bathroom receptacles
to guard against electrocution. Arc Fault
Current Interrupters or AFCI's should be
installed at all bedroom receptacles to avoid
house fires. Make sure you test both
GFCI's and AFCI's once a month to avoid failure.
Service size:
As a rule older homes have smaller electric
services. If you are adding to an older
home or increasing the electric load
installation of a service upgrade may be
necessary. Anticipate spending $1,500 or so for
a 200 amp 120/240 volt service.
Receptacles:
Newer homes have so many electric receptacles it
can be difficult to find a place in the home
where the wire does not reach. That is the
idea. Extension cords are a known hazard.
In new homes you should not need them at
all. If you need more information you should contact electrical contractors nj who can answer those questions for you.
