Damper diverter system damaged missing

Damper diverter system damaged missing : Dampers and diverters have varied meanings when used in air conditioning systems. One damper or diverter is a device that allows two separate systems to use the same ducting. A classic example is a building that has an evaporative cooler or air conditioning system and a separate central heater using the same ducting. If the heater is on without the diverter properly installed almost all the warmed air would blow out the cooler into the atmosphere. When the cooling system is on air would be blown through the heater possibly damaging that system. This damper is often nothing but a piece of sheet metal placed into a slot in the ducting above the heater for cooling and just in front of the cooler for heating. Another damper type is one that is found in gravity heating systems. This type appears as a handle in the duct just above the heater. This type is used to regulate the amount of heat going to a particular room. Some diverters are automatic or are moved by air. Some are used to block air to rooms and are operated by thermostats. The inspector will enter this item if it is noted that the dampers are not working or are damaged or if air movement is noted where it should not be. Repairs are varied and are not always easy. It is recommended you call on the services of a heating contractor unless the inspector has noted an easy remedy.
