Municipal water supply, hints from a home inspector home inspectors
Municipal water supply: a municipal or public water supply means that the water comes from a well which is commonly used by others in your neighborhood besides yourself. Some cities receive water from faraway places delivered through aqueducts or huge pipelines. The water is then treated at a treatment plant and made "potable," or drinkable. All public water systems are supposed to be frequently tested for unhealthy chemicals. In some municipalities there may be lead pipe in use. Lead can be dangerous to your health. The inspector cannot ascertain the presence of lead in the water. The presence of lead can only be ascertained with laboratory testing. If you have a concern, it is recommended that you contact one of several laboratories available for this purpose. They are found in the yellow pages of your phone book under laboratories.
