Ceiling vents are becoming more
commonplace in buildings equipped with evaporative coolers. Ceiling
vents pass the cooled air from the building interior to the attic area
and on to the outside through the attic vents. This allows the normal
unrestricted air movement required of an evaporative cooler to perform
the double duty of cooling the interior as well as the attic. The vents
often appear to be simple heat registers affixed to the ceiling. When
pushed on it is noted that the louvers, or a thin vinyl gasket atop the
vent, will open. The movement of air from the cooler is sufficient to
open these vents.
