Ceiling or floor radiant heat:
Ceiling radiant heat is a system which uses thin wires embedded into the
ceiling plaster. These wires are very thin and fragile so one should not
install plant hangers or the like in the ceiling. Should a break occur
in the heat wires, repairs are possible by reconnecting the break with
most any crimp type connector. Of course, you will leave a hole in the
ceiling where you make repairs so expect to repair the ceiling material
as well. Maintenance of this type heating system is minimal. Usually
each room will have a thermostat with which you can control the
temperature in that particular room. Radiant heat, whether in the slab
or ceiling offers clean, quiet, and safe heat and should give few
problems. Floor heat is almost always developed with steam or hot water
systems. Pipes or tubes traverse the floor just below the surface and
radiate heat up through the floor. No special attention need be given
the floor heat system other than not damaging the floor itself and
conducting a good maintenance program for the boiler. Other items will
have been entered in this list which offer more information about water
heat sources.
