fireplaces have blowers that move air around the fire box, where it is heated, and then blown into the room

Blower inoperative noisy grills damaged : Some fireplaces have blowers that move air around the fire box, air around the fire box is heated, and then blown into the room.

An inoperative blower does not necessarily affect the fireplace safety. Sometimes the blower blades will rub against part of the system and cause scraping noises. Noise can sometimes be stopped by slightly bending the blade so that it does not touch the enclosure case. If the noise is from a defective motor, replacement may be in order. Make sure the electricity is turned off at the fuse or breaker panel before attempting any electrical repairs. Usually blowers can be removed through the front of the fireplace. The problem is usually confined to the motor, the switch, or the wire connections. Call an electrical contractor or a fireplace service company if you feel uncomfortable working with electricity or need further assistance.
