BLOCK FOUNDATION FOAM CONCRETE
A concrete block foundation sitting on a
concrete footing is one of the more common
foundation systems, especially if much height
above the footing is necessary, such as on a
hillside or slope or if the foundation is a
basement wall or other below grade wall.
Hairline cracks are common in block foundations,
especially at the joints between the blocks.
They're usually not considered a concern unless
water penetration is noted. On block foundations
it is somewhat common to see efflorescence (a
white powdery material) where water has
penetrated or permeated through. If water
penetration is a problem with any of these
foundation types it may be necessary to seal the
foundation with one of the many sealants
available.
Each type sealant is good for a
particular job so it will be necessary to
examine closely your exact situation before
researching the field of materials. Some sealers
may be applied to the inside and some must be
applied to the outside, which may require
excavation. Foam blocks are fairly new and are
not commonly found except in certain areas of
North America. They are generally found in very
cold areas where ground frost is prevalent. The
inspector will not be able to ascertain whether
reinforcing bars have been installed within the
footings or foundation.

Inspections" identify any impending
problems. Motors wear out in attic fans in
direct proportion to their use, so obviously the
hotter your climate, the faster yours will wear
out.
