Bathroom floor ceramic tile marble bathroom floor
CERAMIC TILE OR MARBLE BATHROOM FLOOR: CERAMIC TILE: Ceramic
tile, when used on floors, should be a grade of
tile which will withstand the extreme wear which
it is surely to receive. Improperly installed
ceramic tile, or an incorrect type of tile will
almost certainly result in failure. Tile which
is laid over concrete slabs may crack if a slab
crack occurs under the tile. Tile laid over wood
floors may be subjected to flex movements, and
ceramic tile is not flexible. Keep a silicone
sealer applied to the tile for some protection
against grout discoloration. If cracking should
occur, you should contact a Ceramic Tile
Contractor for advice. There are ways to stop
cracking but there is no way to match the tile
if the color or style is no longer available.
MARBLE: Although marble is a beautiful flooring
material it will stain easily. Marble tiles and
marble slabs have much the same characteristics
in that they both break easily if not installed
correctly and both stain very easily. Even water
will temporarily stain marble. Spills should be
cleaned immediately. Wash marble floors with a
clean, soft cloth at least once a week, using a
very mild detergent. Use of a non- yellowing wax
for extra protection is recommended. Acid
stains, such as fruit juice, should be cleaned
immediately, as they may etch into the surface.
Any floor covering materials laid over wood
subfloors effectively prevents the inspector
from determining the condition of the subfloor.
Wood rot can go undetected if not visible to the
inspector. Contact the inspection company for
further information if you desire.
