water heater air-fuel ratio adjustments needed, hints from a home inspector
Air-fuel ratio adjustments needed (soot noted above pilot or main burner): flame on a natural gas water heater usually burns orange and blue and should not lift off the burner. If it is lifting off the burner it may be out of adjustment and may be damaging the appliance or operating inefficiently. Flame on
LPG burners will burn blue also and with slightly more force but should not lift off the burner. Contact a plumbing contractor or the local gas supplier for further assistance in adjusting the flame.
