ATTIC FAN / WHOLE-HOUSE FAN INOPERATIVE / AMISS:
The inspector cannot operate thermostatically controlled attic fans since they are automatically turned on at a preset temperature within the attic. This is a situation whereby the inspector notes that the fan could not possibly work or that it may be incorrectly wired, etc. Attic fans are quite inexpensive and easy to install. Should a new one be necessary, you should be able to find one at almost any Building Supply Outlet. Generally they are not worth repairing unless the repairs are simple and inexpensive. Be sure to repair any electrical deficiencies as soon as possible and remember, do not work on any electrical equipment without first disconnecting the electrical supply to the device to be repaired. Watch where you step in attics. You could easily step through the ceiling and fall to the floor below. Should you need assistance contact an Electrical Contractor or a well trained Home Repair and Maintenance Person. See your yellow pages for a list of companies.
