RIGID SHEET INSULATION:
These materials are most often found in
construction where the use of other more
flexible insulations would not be possible. This
may include "A-frame" type
construction or other "open-beam"
ceilings where the material is used on the outer
layers of siding or roofing. Rigid sheet
insulation is frequently used on walls behind
brick or other sidings and is an excellent
additional insulation used along with the
regular insulation within the walls. It is also
commonly used under slabs and footings to help
prevent frost damage. The sheets are usually 2
to 4 x 8 feet, and come in a variety of
thicknesses, each with a different R-value. The
three most common materials used in rigid boards
are extruded, molded, or expanded polystyrene,
polyurethane and polyisocyanurate.
