CRAWL-HOLE OR ENTRANCE TO
UNDER FLOOR AREA TOO SMALL / COVER MISSING /
AMISS:
The crawl-hole is too small for easy access. The
inspector will try to enter access openings
which are smaller than building standards allow
but in this particular case he apparently
cannot. Every attempt will be made to gain
access into the attic and underneath the
building since these are critical areas and, if
at all possible, must be inspected. If the
inspector cannot gain access into the attic or
under the building he/she can only view what is
visible from whatever opening he/she can find
(like vents and other openings). The inspector
cannot review items he/she cannot see. It may be
necessary to cut a larger opening into the crawl
area. Sometimes this is easiest if it is cut in
the floor of a closet, or the like, and
thereafter installing a "trap door"
over the opening. Should access be available at
a later date, a reinspection should be called
for. There may be a fee for this added service.
Missing or damaged covers should be installed or
repaired to prevent vermin from entering the
under floor area. Contact a Handyman Service for
assistance if needed.
