LOAD BEARING LEDGER ANCHORING
QUESTIONABLE:
Often people will build and attach decks onto
the building by directly fastening them to the
siding with a few nails. It is required that any
load bearing deck be fastened with sufficient
strength to handle, at least, 40 pounds per
square foot. The fastening methods available to
attain this capability are varied. If this item
is checked it may indicate the inspector notes
some slippage or looseness is presently
occurring. Typically large lag bolts will
suffice as proper fastening devices but each
situation differs. This item may or may not be
easy to remedy. Usually the inspector will
indicate some remedy at the site. Be aware that
the inspector is not in any way guaranteeing
that his suggestion will suffice as a remedy to
this situation. It is highly recommended that
you obtain the services of a General Contractor
to resolve this particular problem. Contact a
General Contractor for assistance if necessary.
