UNSAFE FRAMING MEMBER
POTENTIAL / LIGHT FRAMING:
Sometimes property owners will install decks,
patio covers, stairways, porches, etc., and
leave out critical braces and other supports.
Some times framing members will not be
fitted together properly or may have missing
fastening devices or hangers. This item is
mostly referring to situations such as that but
also may include any situation which alerts the
inspector to take note. While the inspector is
not trying to be an alarmist, his policy is that
it is better to be safe than sorry. Post braces,
joist hangers, and other building brackets can
easily be installed by most anyone and are
available at Building Supply Outlets. Light
framing most often refers to older buildings
which have over spanned rafters, beams and
girders. It is recommended that you have a
General Contractor review the framing and make
corrections as needed.
