FOUNDATION BOLTS / ANCHORS
NOT INSTALLED / AMISS:
Foundation bolts are installed to help prevent
the structure from slipping,
"bouncing," or blowing off the
foundation in the event of earthquake or extreme
winds. Many older structures do not have
foundation bolts installed. If foundation bolts
are not installed, due to the advanced age of
the structure, the inspector may not check this
item. Should you desire to know more about
whether foundation bolts are installed you
should contact the inspector for further
information. Building anchors are installed at
various locations in a building to assist in
maintaining the integrity of the structure in
earthquakes and extreme winds. Often building
anchors are not visible to the inspector. In
this instance apparently they are mostly visible
but are not proper. This may include, for
example, improper fastening of the device, its
deterioration due to rust, etc. There are
companies which install foundation bolts, or
other acceptable devices, in older structures.
The process can be quite expensive . If the
footing is deteriorated the anchoring devices
may not help much. Contact a Concrete Contractor
for additional information.
