WOOD FRAMING
WOOD FRAMING:
With conventional framing the structure is
framed either with metal or wood framing members
and the frame is covered with interior and
exterior cladding creating a wall cavity which
may or may not be filled with insulating
material. In some cases, such as in garages and
storage or utility rooms, the interior cladding
will be left off. Wood is most common in
residential construction and metal more common
in commercial applications. Single wall
construction may be found in some areas where
the climate is mild. The structure is framed
horizontally with exterior wood siding attached
vertically. The technique is common in the state
of Hawaii. Single wall construction is similar
to board and batt construction. It is important
to maintain a reasonable distance between earth
and wood members to help prevent wood rot, and
corrosive damage to metal frames. There are many
components involved in site framed systems.
