2" X 6" TONGUE AND GROOVE SUBFLOORS
This type of sub-floor is used often where the builder wanted more strength and a solid floor. Often these heavier subfloors will be used over beam construction where the distance between beams is so great that the more rigid 2" x 6" is needed. The tongue and groove configuration is instrumental in helping the sheathing maintain rigidity, in that, the "tongue" (which runs the full length of the board) of one board is inserted into the groove of the other board. The inspector will not routinely report "squeaks" and "pops" in wood floors.
