POST / POLE NOT BRACED / GUSSETED / SOUND

9010
POST / POLE NOT BRACED / GUSSETED / SOUND:
This item is intended to cover posts under porches and decks as well as posts atop piers under the structure, including posts used in pole construction on hillsides and swamp or beach front property. Gussets are diagonal braces installed on posts. They are usually made of 1/2" to 3/4" plywood or 1" x 6" or 2" x 4" lumber cut diagonally at each end--usually at a 45 degree angle-and nailed or bolted onto the post and the beam it supports. In the event earth tremors or heavy winds are strong enough to cause structural problems gussets and other diagonal bracing will play a major role in maintaining the integrity of the building, especially post and pier foundations, pole construction, decks, and patio covers, or other components which rest on posts or poles.  Structures which rest on poles are especially vulnerable to problems with the pole braces since the entire structure's integrity depends so much on diagonal bracing. Unsound posts or poles may be damaged to the extent that they should be replaced or reattached at the base or top. Use your own judgment here to determine the type gusset or brace to install since some may look better than others after installation and obviously since some methods are better for the particular application. Contact a Building Repair and Maintenance Company or a General Contractor should you need assistance.

When it comes time to sign a contract to purchase a home it is vital you find and use a New Jersey Real Estate Attorney. Although many attorneys represent clients in real estate transactions there are a select few who do it well. Real estate attorneys who handle real estate transactions are good at it because they do it day after day. If an unusual situation comes up during your real estate deal odds are an experienced New Jersey Real Estate attorney had the same or a similar situation before and knows just what to do. Hiring an experienced home inspector has the same benefit, when something unusual comes up they are much more likely to know what to tell you in order for you to negotiate better.
