PLASTIC LAMINATE (FORMICA ®) VANITY TOP OR BACK SPLASH
PLASTIC
LAMINATE (FORMICA ®) VANITY TOP OR BACK SPLASH:
Plastic laminate is a sheet material comprised
of a decorative paper bonded to several layers
of resin-treated kraft paper then covered with a
translucent, melamine-resin which becomes clear
during pressing and curing. The resulting
material is hard, durable, and resistant to
water, alcohol, heat, and stains. Plastic
laminates (the brand Formica, is probably the
best known) are often bonded to particle board
and plywood for use in furniture, countertops,
wall coverings, and much more. This material can
be burned and can be scratched but is resistant
to stains. Cast iron wash basin
"let-in" to floated tile. caulk should
be put under the rim when the sink was
installed. If leaks appear below the rim
re-caulking is called for. A bead of caulk can
be applied at the base of the rim where it meets
the counter top.
