UNDER SINK VALVES

UNDER SINK VALVES: Under-sink valves are sometimes called "angle stops". An angle stop is a water shut-off valve which has an inlet and outlet which are 90 degrees to one another. These are commonly used for water closets and under sinks as local water shut-off points. Some under-sink valves are, of course, not the angle stop type but serve the same purpose. Sometimes these valves get such little use that often they will corrode and refuse to turn. When a stuck valve is turned the handle or stem could break. For this reason the inspector is not allowed to turn an under-sink valve on or off. If the valve is not leaking, it usually is a sign of a sufficient installation. The valve may, however, still be corroded and may refuse to turn. When this is the case, it would be necessary to turn the main valve off to make repairs to fixtures.
