LAVATORY LET IN TO TILE OR OTHER MATERIALS

LAVATORY LET IN TO TILE OR OTHER MATERIALS: This includes lavs let in to any material. "Let in" means the lav is set into or under the tile. See Fig. 64g (2). This installation is the most difficult to install and replace. Usually, the lav is below the tile with quarter round tiles used to trim the edge. It is at that point where most problems occur. The grout or caulk may crack allowing water to leak into the substrate below the tile causing rot. Keep this joint well grouted or caulked. Another let in situation is when the lavatory is hung beneath the countertop. Keep these well caulked where they join the countertop to prevent water running under the counter.
