VANITY COUNTERTOP LOOSE / DAMAGED / AMISSVANITY COUNTERTOP LOOSE / DAMAGED / AMISS: The concern here is that the loose top may shift and cause damage to the drain and/or water pipes. Purchase a tube of adhesive caulk from any Lumber Yard or Home Improvement Store and apply a small amount to the top, where it meets the vanity top edge, while lifting the top slightly off the vanity base. Use masking tape around the vanity base to keep the caulk from discoloring the wood. Pull the tape off only after you are sure the excess caulk has been cleaned off the tape. Failure to do this may result in more of a mess than if you had not used tape. Pull the tape off very slowly straight down over itself. This should prevent pulling any of the wood veneer off. Cultured marble tops which are heavily damaged usually are replaced. If the inspector indicated "amiss" he may be referring to a situation unique to the property. Some materials, such as Corian, can usually be repaired and returned to the original appearance regardless of the damage extent. Corian can be repaired easily but will require the services of a Corian specialist. You should be able to find the name of one in the yellow pages of your phone directory under Counter Top Installers. Small burns and scratches can be removed with sandpaper on Corian tops. You may find it necessary to call on the services of a Cabinet Shop or Counter Top Installer to assist in repairs.
