 New Jersey home inspection NJ home inspectors perform Certified New Jersey home inspections in NJ.LAVATORY NOT SECURED TO WALL / COUNTERTOP / AMISS: Free standing lavatories are usually fastened to the wall with brackets. If the lavatory is not secure to the wall or counter top, movement may cause damage to the pipes resulting in leaks. If the inspector indicated amiss there may be some other damage to the lav or countertop. Free standing units may simply have loose brackets. However if the brackets are not installed you may be able to obtain them from a Plumbing Supply dealer or a Plumbing Contractor. Installation may require the removal of the lav in order to gain access to the hold down bolts. Lavs which are fastened to the underside of prefabricated tops are often found to be loose. Securing these will require a wrench or screwdriver, depending on the fastening screw type. Attempts to tighten the screw or bolt may be met with failure if the threads are stripped. If this is the case it may be necessary to re-drill new holes for the screws. To prevent water leakage be sure to caulk around the lav after securing. If you cannot accomplish the repair you should call on the services of a Plumbing Contractor or Counter Top Installer.
