WATER
CLOSET SEAT MISSING / LOOSE / DAMAGED / AMISS:
Most water closet seats are fastened to the bowl
with plastic bolts. These seats, when loose, are
more a nuisance than a problem. Some water
closet seats however, are fastened with brass
bolts, or possibly some other metal. If these
bolts are kinked against the bowl hard enough
(as they sometimes are when they are loose) they
may crack the bowl. Seats are held on with two
bolts and nuts. Tighten them securely using a
pair of pliers or a small adjustable wrench.
Some seat bolt heads are hidden under a small
"cap" or "lid". Lift the cap
to expose the bolt head and its screwdriver
slot. Use of a large screwdriver is usually
necessary to remove or tighten these bolts. If
the seat is cracked, purchase a new one at a
Lumber Yard or Home Improvement Store and
install it yourself. Take note whether the seat
is round or elongated. Replace missing seats
immediately for health reasons. Contact a
Plumbing Contractor or Handyman Service for
assistance if needed.
