DRAIN
ACCESS IF SLIP JOINT DRAIN: Almost all bath
tubs will have an access door or plate in the
wall behind the faucets and drain. It may be a
grill vent. Plastic pipe which does not contain
"slip joints" may have been used, for
which no access is required. Many times the
access plate will be on an outside wall. If a
tub sits on a floor with a crawl space
underneath, the crawl space itself may provide
access. Be aware that the inspector is not
allowed to perform destructive testing of any
kind. Access covers which are painted or
wallpapered shut will not be removed. Plumbing
problems or structural problems under the tub
may go unnoticed. Contact the inspector for
further information regarding this limitation
should you desire.
