The most common problem with diverter valves is leakage at the stem. If this occurs there may be the possibility of water running into the wall cavity. A new stem packing may be needed. Sometimes a small knob atop the tub spout diverts water to the shower head. This particular type is a low maintenance item which rarely gives trouble.
