DRAIN STOP INOPERATIVE / NEEDS ADJUSTING / PARTS MISSING: Many drain stoppers are the "pop-up" type which are controlled by a lever which is connected to a shaft which lifts or lowers the drain stopper. Often these will get out of adjustment or break. If they become enough of a nuisance, some property owners will disconnect them. One type of pop-up stopper is simply pressed down for the stopper action and pressed again to release it. This type is almost always found in bathtubs and can easily be replaced should it wear out. Adjustments are made by screwing the connecting rod in or out on tub stoppers and by sliding the "clevis" up or down on sink stoppers. This rod is accessed through the overflow drain cap in bathtubs, and is found on sinks under the counter. It may be necessary to contact a Plumbing Contractor or Handyman for assistance. One sure cure to drain stopper problems is to purchase a rubber stopper as a replacement. Any of the pop-up type stoppers can be repaired however, if the necessary components are available. Replacement parts are available at most Plumbing Supply Stores and Home Improvement Stores.
