LOW VOLTAGE EXTERIOR LIGHTING:
The inspection company does not review low voltage light systems beyond
the connection to the building line current There are many types of low
voltage light systems. All low voltage systems must have a transformer
to reduce the line voltage (110 Volts) down to 6 to 24 volts. These
lower voltages are less dangerous than 110 Volt yard lights, but they
are often less brilliant Since they are lower wattage than line voltage
systems, they use much less electricity The wires which connect low
voltage lights to their transformer are tough and can be buried directly
in the ground. A misdirected shovel, of course, could cut the wire When
the lights are pointing upward, the bulb holder can collect rain or
sprinkler system water. Be sure that the small drain hole in the bulb
holder is open so this water can drain. If water stands around the bulb
itself it will corrode the contacts on the back of the bulb and
eventually a loss of contact will result Check your low voltage light
system every 3 months for wire placement and drain hole clearance if you
have that type Many other types of low voltage light systems exist.
Contact the inspection company if you need further information regarding
your specific type system.
