CONCRETE / MASONRY RETAINING WALL / BULKHEAD:
The inspector will review retaining walls and bulkheads for moderate to
major cracks, for moderate to major movement, and for the placement of
weep holes, if indicated, to help relieve hydraulic forces behind the
wall. The ability of the retaining wall or bulkhead to withstand forces
applied upon it cannot be ascertained by the inspection company Complete
certainty of the abilities of any bulkhead or retaining wall would
require the excavation and demolition of the wall itself. There would be
no other way to review reinforcing bars contained within the concrete or
masonry and no other way to review the footings of the wall.
